Ring Magflex 1000 Superflex LED Utility Lamp

When it comes to venturing into the great British outdoors, we all know the drill: pack your bags, load up the 4x4, and don't forget a reliable light source for those dimly lit escapades. Enter the Ring Magflex 1000 Superflex LED Utility Lamp - a mouthful of a name for a nifty gadget that is a modern marvel designed to make your outdoor adventures brighter and better.

First things first, the Ring Magflex 1000 is bright. With a powerful 1000 Lumens , it turns night into day, making it perfect for those midnight car repairs or post-sunset camp setups(don’t make the mistake of looking at it, as I did, when you press on. “Aaaargh, my eyes!”). Unlike traditional spot torches, the Magflex spreads light evenly and widely, ensuring you can see everything in your path.

Oh So Flexible

The standout feature here is the lamp's flexibility. The 'Superflex' in the name isn't just a marketing ploy; no, this lamp can twist and bend like a gymnast, meaning you can direct light exactly where you need it. The magnetic block, and removeable and adjustable elasticated bonnet hooks on both ends mean you can attach it pretty much anywhere, keeping your hands free for more important tasks (like holding your cuppa).

The Ring Magflex 1000 is a breeze to operate. Forget about fiddly buttons and confusing settings; this lamp has a simple on/off switch on each magnetic block. Press once and you get the full 1000 Lumens, twice and it goes down to 400 Lumens, third press gives a gentle 100 Lumens, and on the fourth press it flashes red - great for emergencies.

No more hunting for batteries, it charges via a USB-C charging cable (supplied) and has a 3 hour operating time at full power and up to 20 hours on its lowest setting.

Durability is another big win for the Magflex. The light strip is encased in rubber making it tough enough to withstand the inevitable drops and knocks that come with outdoor life. Plus, it’s weather-resistant, so a bit of British drizzle won’t put it out of action. The light strip can also can be rotated up to 160° so that you can position it to shine just where you want it.

Any Drawbacks?

While the USB charging is convenient, if you’re out in the wild for an extended period, you’ll need a portable charger to keep it powered up as there is no battery option. Also, as with most chargeable products I’ve tested recently, it has a small rubber stopper to cover the charging port, held on by a thin pice of rubber. I can’t tell you how many I have lost when the flimsy connection breaks, leaving the port open to bits of grime to get in. It’s not a deal-breaker, just something to be aware of.

Our Verdict

When compared to traditional lamps on the UK market, the Ring Magflex 1000 stands out like a beacon. It’s bright, flexible, and tough, with a user-friendly design that takes the hassle out of lighting up the dark. Those old-school torches and lanterns may have a nostalgic charm, but they simply can’t compete with the brightness, flexibility, and convenience of this modern utility lamp. It’s like comparing a horse-drawn carriage to a Land Rover Defender - both have their place, but one is undeniably more suited to the rugged demands of today’s outdoor enthusiasts.
