Larking About in Land Rovers Book
I don’t read many books. It’s not that I don’t like reading, it’s mainly down to the fact that I never seem to have the time. Another pathetic excuse is that after spending a day doing my own writing my eyes are tired, and I always seem to have something more important to do.
When I learnt that Toby Savage had a new book out, I was intrigued. I was even more intrigued when I learnt that it was 133 pages, brimming with 30 short stories and more photos than you can shake a stick at, so I had to find out more.
If you aren’t familiar with the name, Toby Savage is a professional photographer, outdoor and Land Rover enthusiast, and he has also been a regular contributor in various Land Rover magazines spanning the last three decades.
A few months back we advertised Toby’s crowdfunding page for this book in the magazine, and now it has been published Toby kindly sent a copy to us at Muddy HQ.
After reading John Carroll’s foreword, and Toby’s preface ramblings, I knew it was going to be both a funny and wholesome read, and I hadn’t even begun with the stories.
With tales that include his 1948, 80” Land Rover and long-wheelbase Carawagon camper, green laning adventures in the UK and epics trips to North Africa, I chuckled, tittered and chortled away at his exploits, each story more wholesome than the last.
Toby’s sense of humour and well travelled life make him a great storyteller, and his photos are top-notch, as you would expect.
I would love to tell you more about his anecdotes, but that would mean spoiling the joy of reading his book. So if you’ve enjoyed following Toby’s exploits in the past, or are simply a Land Rover enthusiast, you will certainly be in for a treat as it’s a very entertaining read, full of heartwarming stories that cover five decades.
