The first thing you'll notice about the SIGG MyPlanet water bottle is its sleek and sturdy design. With a capacity of 0.6 litres, it’s the Goldilocks of water bottles – not too big, not too small, just right for a day of driving, hiking or exploring the countryside, but what really sets this bottle apart is its eco-friendly credentials.

The body is made from 100% recycled aluminium, with an interior coating that is resistant to fruit acids, free of chemicals and the top made with cellulose, the main substance in the walls of plant cell.

Boasting a carbon-neutral production, this bottle, created from old high voltage wiring and printing plates, is designed for those who care about their environmental footprint as much as their footsteps in nature.

There are a range of plain colours, and many of the bottles in the range have a message to highlight climate protection printed on the body, and they don’t forget the kids as there are a couple of more funky designs too.

The bottle has a practical screw top that ensures a leak-proof experience - even when it’s bouncing around in your rucksack. The cap’s design, which has a large, finger-sized hole for easy attachment with a carabiner, also makes it simple to open and close, even with gloves on, which is a blessing on those chilly mornings when you’d rather not expose your fingers to the cold.

The 0.6-litre capacity might seem modest, but it’s perfectly proportioned to fit snugly into most backpack side pockets, and bike bottle holders too, so you’re not left searching through your bag when it’s time to drink.

Are there any downsides?

Compared to some of the wider-mouthed competitors, when you’re in need of a good gulp, with its narrower top you might have to take a few more sips to quench your thirst - not exactly a hardship, and actually it could be classed as an upside if you are one of those people (like me) who usually ends up pouring your drink down your front when you misjudge the flow rate.

It isn’t insulated, so if you like your drinks cold adding ice cubes can also be tricky, but we got round this by filling and then chilling it in the fridge for an hour or so before we left.

Another point worth noting is that while the aluminium body is robust, it can dent if you’re a little too rough with it - something to consider if your adventures tend to be on the rugged side, but, let’s be honest, a few dings and scrapes just add character.

My Final Thoughts

When stacked against other outdoor-ready bottles the SIGG MyPlanet holds its own, especially as it's a bit lighter than the stainless steel alternatives, which is great for cutting down on carry weight. I really liked the durable non-slippy feel of the powder coating on the one that I got to test, and the matt aluminium ones felt lovely too.

The SIGG MyPlanet Water Bottle is a really good addition to your outdoor kit. It’s eco-friendly, practical and stylish, and whilst it might not be perfect - the narrow mouth, being non-insulated and the potential for dents - it’s definitely a winner if you’re looking for a lightweight, reliable and environmentally conscious way to carry drinks on your adventures.
